18 June 2020 News

With all transition comes reflection.  It’s particularly noticeable in the conversations I’m having with the Principals.  ‘Life in lockdown’ has seen us reassess priorities, reconsider old ways of doing things, adapt to new ways of running our businesses, supporting our families and connecting with our communities.  The question I have asked all Principals:

In 12 months’ what does success look like for you?

  • In what ways will you be thinking differently?
  • How will you/your team/your clients feel about the change/new strategy/goal?
  • What things will you/your business be doing differently? Alternatively, how will you be doing it?

The responses have similar common themes:

Reassess priorities – the stand out is more time with our families, it seems for most of us lockdown has brought us closer (or perhaps we’ve learnt to become more understanding?)
Reconsider old ways of doing things – global enforced adoption of digital (have you watched the share price of Zoom?), has seen an acceleration of reviewing processes, use of various business apps and in particular outsourcing services
Adapt to new ways of running our businesses – resoundingly…”do I really need an office?” Followed by, “do we really need to send paper (anything!).,
Supporting our families and connecting with our communities – homeschooling, shopping for our parents, virtual celebrations and creative “nights in”.

There’s a shift towards understanding our own mortality and being present in our daily lives. Many times I’ve heard “our clients are thankful they have someone to talk to, that you’ve taken their stress away and importantly, they know someone else is looking out for their financial wellbeing.

I recently read a great report, Life After Lockdown (CLICK HERE) produced by Forethought, a research company who spend time analysing data and providing consumer insights.  This resonated; ‘The Interim Normal.  We are adapting and normalising but we are also changing.’ No wonder we are feeling confused!  However, this is the best part of being a human.  We’re good at being resilient and adapting to our circumstances.  It’s the gift of evolution.

Sincerely,
Annick
