25 September News

We’re five weeks away from Conference, and thirteen weeks from Christmas. I’m not one for counting down days, but I’m really looking forward to closing this year out and finding time to reflect and relax. I’m having many conversations across our community about all sorts of things. The common thread is ‘what does the future hold?”. The expression “the best way to predict the future is to create it”, may seem out of our hands because of the continual uncertainty and the sheer number of decisions we are required to make each day. However, it never ceases to amaze me what you (our advisers) can navigate through. I’ve had conversations about family relationships, health, succession and growth over recent weeks. Each conversation has its unique set of circumstances and challenges. What has struck me is the way our advisers have approached the obstacle before them, the vulnerability and honesty in the conversations we have, the trust they place in those from who they seek support.

I just got off the phone from Aaron Williams, founder of Mindstar. Aaron is speaking at our Conference about mental health and wellbeing. He understands what it’s like to feel alone and isolated despite having people around you that will help if they knew how. He’s a big believer of helping connect people to help each other and has come up with practical and simple ways to do this. Given my conversations over the last few weeks, I think this session will benefit all of us.

We have many new advisers who have recently joined our community. For those attending Conference, I’d appreciate you taking the time to meet new people, re-connect with people you haven’t seen for a while and find ways to support each other as we transition into the new reality of our profession. As a collective, you have such strength. I witness it regularly.

It will also be a time to learn about your leadership style and the culture you foster within your business. Leadership and culture are foundational in any business, especially when the road ahead in uncertain.

We’re really looking forward to welcoming you to the Gold Coast for Conference 2019.  If you haven’t registered, please do.  Let’s shape the future together.

Regards,

Annick
