2 July 2020 News

Happy New Financial Year!  Whilst not widely celebrated anymore (we have become too busy), for Madison it signals a new owner and a new beginning.  That is worth celebrating.    Often a New Year triggers moment of self-reflection, calls to action and the intrepid resolution!  Well intended resolutions often falter within days/weeks of their commencement.  It’s a flawed human concept unless the resolution you make really means something to you.

Last month, I had the pleasure of listening to very meaningful conversations about your business aspirations for the next twelve months.  What I heard resonated because it was easy to see how important these goals and objectives are to you (sound familiar?).  The first six months of 2020 required adaptive leadership, where ‘necessity became the mother of invention’.  As leaders of your business, you can probably point to the moment in time where this change occurred.  The lessons learned and obstacles overcome have set the foundation for the next twelve months.  Use this foundation as the springboard for a prosperous FY21.

In a recent McKinsey article about the Corporate Corona virus ‘aftermath’ the authors wrote, ‘Companies will define what they do in the crucible of COVID-19 response—or be defined by it.’

I believe our community has proven we are the former.  The article lists some principles which might help shape your business planning for the year ahead.

  • Understand how acute your stakeholders’ needs are now
    • Think about the changes you’ve already made to ensure you stay connected. What worked?  What didn’t?
  • Bring your greatest strengths to bear
    • This is intuitive, we all know when we’re ‘in the zone’
  • Test your decisions against your purpose
    • Every conversation I’ve had with a Principle to hear about the 12-month plan is anchored to their purpose (you’ve got this!).
  • Involve your employees in the solution
    • Who in your team has come up with creative solutions during social isolation? If you’re looking for clues, have a chat to the team from Mad About Life!
  • Lead from the front
    • Self-explanatory. Your clients have sought your leadership during difficult times on many occasions.  It’s in your DNA.

Next month, when we host our Good Governance Summit, I’ll share our 100 day plan and the strategic priorities. There are things underway already.   This first of this is our new Advice Integration Manager, a role to help support our practices maximise efficiency with business processes and software applications, starting with xplan.  During the due diligence process with Rod Bristow and the Clime Executive, the Adviser Panel raised the need for more support in this area, As a result, I’m delighted to announce Megan Thomson has joined our team and will be working with you in this capacity.

How we decided to face this year will define how we succeed.  Our team believe we have a great opportunity ahead of us within the Clime community and we’re eager to get on with it.

Sincerely,

Annick
