The first FASEA adviser exam has been sat and results have been released. It’s outstanding to see that over 90% of advisers passed. We’re aware several advisers in our community sat and passed the exam. Congratulations to these advisers and thank you for sharing your success with our team. We enjoyed receiving the texts and emails of your results.
Since the release of the exam results, I’ve been watching the social media channels and reading the comments and messages shared across the advice community. A few things have struck a chord;
- The willingness of advisers to share their results (including those who didn’t pass the first time);
- The messages of congratulations and positivity from all members of financial services;
- The offers of assistance and emotional support to those who didn’t pass or yet to sit the exam.
It’s another reminder that advisers are good with people and emotions. You care, and this is what makes the advice community so distinctive. The last few years have been (and will continue to be) extremely challenging. It’s not because advisers don’t have the skill to navigate challenges (after all, these are mainly small business owners who are generally quite resourceful); it’s the layering effect of the change, the uncertainty and the competing vested interests across the financial services industry that is creating continual tension. So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed or frustrated (& in some instances angry), it’s quite understandable. Remember you’re not alone, we have a supportive community that you can reach out to; my team and I are also here to help. Special mention to Matt Beauchamp who called Anthea Fordham (new to Madison community) to see how she went in the exam (she passed). Moments like this one will continue to strengthen our community.
Sadly, we lost a member of our community last week. John Lowey, Bellevue Financial Planning based in Queensland recently passed away. John was so passionate about his clients and loved sharing stories about them. I feel fortunate to have spent some time with him. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and the Madison Queensland adviser community who knew John well.

Moments like this remind us that life is finite and wherever possible, spend your time with the people that matter the most and doing things you are passionate about. It makes the challenging days whether work or personal, a little easier if you’re surrounded by people who support each other.
Behind the scenes, we’ve been working on the 2019 Conference program. Look out for more information next week. We’re also preparing for the next stage of FASEA changes and, getting ready for the Code of Ethics. In the meantime, if you would like to speak to me about anything, please let me know.
Regards,
Annick
